DATA CENTER
National Informatics Centre (NIC) was established in 1976, and has since emerged as a "prime builder" of e-Government / e-Governance applications up to the grassroots level as well as a promoter of digital opportunities for sustainable development. NIC, through its ICT Network, "NICNET", has institutional linkages with all the Ministries /Departments of the Central Government, 35 State Governments/ Union Territories, and about 625 District administrations of India.
"Informatics-led-development" programme of the government has been spearheaded by NIC to derive competitive advantage by implementing ICT applications in social & public administration. The following major activities are being undertaken:
To fulfil this requirement , NIC has set up state-of-the-art National Data Centres at NIC Hqrs, Delhi, Pune and Hyderabad and 30 small data centres at various state capitals to provide services to the Government at all levels. These Data Centres combine round-the-clock operations and management of systems with onsite skilled personnel.
The West Bengal State Centre (NIC-WBSC) of the National Informatics Centre(NIC) has been actively involved in promotion and penetration of Information Technology towards E-Governance at the State and District Administration levels in line with the national mandate of NIC. During the last two decades, the NIC has developed and implemented several Information systems and Information and Communications Technology(ICT) applications covering a host of important Departments of the State and Central Government.
The NIC, West Bengal State Centre is located at Bidyut Bhavan, Salt Lake, Kolkata with other nodal centers at Writers' Building, New Secretariat Building, Rawdon Street and Nizam Palace. The NIC, West Bengal State Centre has been actively involved with the promotion and penetration of Informatics Culture towards e-governance exclusively to the Government at the State and District administrations. New initiatives, as per enthusiasm of the Government of West Bengal towards electronics governance have been taken up.
NIC has set up a world class Data Centre at Nizam Palace, CGO Complex Kolkata. The Data Centre, Kolkata is designed to provide full spectrum of hosting services which extend from shared hosting, dedicated servers with managed hosting solutions to infrastructure services. Best practices and standards are followed in managing the Data Centre.
